How the numbers work
The arithmetic is simple on purpose: monthly pet rent times the number of months on your lease, plus whatever you paid up front. The two halves behave differently, and the difference matters. Pet rent is gone for good every month. A pet deposit is refundable in principle, minus deductions for actual damage, under the same rules as any other deposit, which is why, over a full lease, the monthly charge is usually the bigger of the two.
